What Happens to Your Body After a Car Accident

Auto accidents place sudden, significant force on the body, even at low speeds. Your car absorbs much of the impact, but the rest travels through your spine, joints, and soft tissues. Injuries are not always immediately obvious, because the adrenaline response following an accident can mask pain for hours or days.

Common auto accident injuries we treat at French Broad Chiropractic include:

  • Whiplash (neck strain from rapid forward-backward movement)
  • Lower back and lumbar strain
  • Shoulder, hip, and joint injuries

Many patients arrive feeling fine, only to develop stiffness, headaches, or nerve symptoms in the days that follow. Getting assessed shortly after an accident, even before pain appears, helps identify underlying injury and prevents compensatory movement patterns from becoming chronic problems.

How Dr. Taylor MacLean Approaches Auto Injury Care

Dr. Taylor MacLean, DC, takes a nervous-system-centered approach to auto injury recovery. Rather than focusing exclusively on pain relief, care at French Broad Chiropractic addresses the broader disruption an accident causes to your body's natural signaling and movement patterns.

After a traumatic event, the nervous system can remain stuck in a state of heightened alert. Chiropractic adjustments help restore normal spinal movement, reduce tension in affected joints, and shift the body out of that fight-or-flight response so genuine healing can begin.

Dr. Taylor has clinical experience with personal injury cases and works alongside attorneys when documentation is needed to support a claim. French Broad Chiropractic is also in-network with UHC and Optum, and accepts referrals through the VA Community Care Network.

Step 3: Ongoing Care and Documentation

Follow-up visits focus on progressive recovery, restoring normal movement, and reducing residual pain. If your case involves a personal injury claim, thorough clinical notes are kept throughout your care.

What Patients Experience After Treatment

Patients who seek chiropractic care after an auto accident typically report:

  • Reduced neck and back pain as inflammation settles and joint mobility is restored
  • Improved range of motion and reduced stiffness in affected areas
  • A clearer recovery timeline, with documented progress that supports insurance or legal processes

Early intervention tends to produce better outcomes. Waiting weeks or months for symptoms to resolve on their own can allow compensatory patterns to develop, which often require longer to address.

This is Daren

Daren was one of my first auto accident patients I had the privilege of being a provider for. When Daren first came in to see me he was in a motorized wheel chair that he had been bound to for many years on top of the injuries he sustained from a motor vehicle accident...

Him and his family relied on medical ride shares to get him to/from places because of his condition. When one day, Daren was a passenger of rideshare en route to a routine appointment and suddenly they were t-boned! Already wheelchair bound, now he had a host of other issues and pain from the whiplash and accident.

His attorney reccomended him to us to help with the pain and injuries sustained from the accident. When Dr. Taylor first met Daren, he was bound to his wheelchair and in so much pain we had to do his x-rays and exams seated within the wheelchair.

THE MIRACLE.

Through care Daren's pain diminished significantly, he begin to get mobility and strength back in his limbs. DAREN BEGAN TO STAND and WALK AGAIN, regaining balance and coordination! Mind you he still needed a walker, but his family didn't need to pay the extra money for medical rideshares to transport him anymore and they could utilize their own vehicles. More importantly Daren could walk and move again and was getting his life back!

It sucks to get hit by a car... but this car accident and personal injury case was the blessing that got Daren the care he needed!

Because of cases like Daren's is why we do what we do!

Don't continue to suffer or delay, we're here for you too! If you were in a car accident, reach out to us about taking on your case and getting you the care you need!
